Researching a Trip to Belize

(Originally published late Summer 2023)

Have you ever…

  • Hiked through a tropical rainforest, looking for wild monkeys and colorful birds?
  • Learned to make your own chocolate in an authentic Mayan kitchen?
  • Floated through a rarely visited cave system, that was greatly important to Ancient Mayan civilizations?

Not Yet?

Actually, neither have we… yet.  This article begins our journey of discovery about Belize and is merely a teaser of adventures to come!  The upcoming trip provides a serious reason to learn more, and we will start by looking into some enticing options. So far, we’ve got flights and lodging booked, but we are traveling with a small group and still discussing the itinerary and excursions list. We certainly anticipate a LOT of time for relaxing on the beach!

For such a very small country, Belize is blessed with enough unique experiences to overflow your bucket, all by itself!  For this next trip, we will research tons of options, while attempting to narrow down the choices, sharing exciting ideas along the way.  I tend to obsess over each upcoming adventure and new location, so look forward to several articles and “fun facts,” which we hope will help you plan your next exciting journey, also.

Whether you’re ready for some inspiration on your next Caribbean vacation, or just dreamily imagining it all, read on!  You will quickly learn why we’re so excited about this tropical gem, with its unbelievable weather and endless nature-loving and cultural opportunities.

Cave Kayaking through the Mayan Underworld

Up for an adventure?  Why not explore the caves with a kayak?  Not only can you access more of the cave system than on the highly publicized tubing trips, but it also just feels a lot safer to be holding a paddle, right?  (In case you missed it, we’ll repeat that important point:  the key difference is that choosing the innertube tour means you will never see the upper chambers of the cave system!)  Why not opt for the more unique experience?  Added bonus:  You will get to upload cave pics very different from those your brother, your cousin, and everyone else you know who’s visited Belize already posted!  (Don’t worry, we’ll include both the tube and kayak links below.  We understand that some travelers are simply less intimidated by innertubes than by kayaks, and the goal is to have an incredible day!)

Do you love waterfalls? In case the rarity of the option above is not enough on its own to draw you in, it is likely that you have not yet seen an underground waterfall like the one you will get to visit on this tour!  (Just remember to bring your own headlamp for the best view!  Helmets are included, but “attachments” are not.)  No feeling quite matches the magnitude at the base of a natural waterfall… This one just happens to exist in a place highly sacred to the ancient Mayans! Are we stacking amazing bonuses? Sure feels like it to me!

So many reasons to choose this excursion, including:

  • Unique educational opportunity!
  • Air-conditioned transportation is included from Belize City (Cruise port, hotel, or water taxi terminal)
  • Especially great as a shore excursion during cruises, planned to ensure your timely arrival at the cruise dock early
  • 24-hour cancellation policy protects you in the case of unforeseen events

If tubing still sounds better, we have included a few options for you:

Add some Mayan Archeology, ziplines, a short hike, and/or lunch!

IMPORTANT!!!

While some of you are confident in booking your own Belize vacation, we recommend working with a travel advisor for International locations.  First off, there is just so much frustration avoided when working with a pro!  We’ll leave it at that for now, because this topic could be an entry of its own, and it most likely will be at some point.  (It was! If you have already hired an agency, ask them if this excursion can be added to your group’s package.  Go through your travel professional first, because they may be able to provide the best deal, while considering your overall experience.  If your agent is somehow unable to add a trip we recommend, you should be able to easily add it yourself, for an unscheduled portion of your vacation, through the sponsored links on our site. Booking through links we post support our site!

Mayan Cooking Tour

Great for foodies, herbalists, and anyone who wants to learn more about Mayan culture!  On this tour, you may enjoy authentic tastes AND sights.  Of course, no Belize food tour is complete without the delectable chocolate, and this tour will teach you to make your own delicious bar!

Want to learn about herbal medicine and healing plants of Belize?  This tour has you covered there too!  I was able to learn a lot about our tour host, Mrs. Saqui, a well-studied spiritual healer,  from Aurora Garcia Saqui – Belize Living Heritage (not a sponsored link, only a reference source), and will definitely look her up on one of my upcoming visits to the region!  According to this site, she has written some books I might pick up as well!

  • What you posted made a ton of sense. However, what about this?
suppose you added a little information? I ain’t saying your
content isn’t good., but suppose you added something that grabbed folk’s attention? I mean Researching a Trip to Belize – NotYetTravel.com is kinda vanilla.

You ought to glance at Yahoo’s home page and see how they create post titles to grab viewers to click.
You might try adding a video or a related pic or two to get people excited about what you’ve written. In my opinion,
it would make your website a little bit more interesting.
